The BASE architecture

The BASE architecture

Technology Description

BASE lowers the barrier to entry and increases the competitiveness of companies in the fourth industrial revolution. The BASE platform is built on a proprietary architecture enabling a cost-effective, customizable and scalable solution to automate, optimize, schedule, keep track of, and get timely feedback on activities and processes in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and even healthcare. Additionally, the BASE architecture allows the seamless integration of human workers into the digital environment.

The BASE architecture provides a platform that allows any resource (human or machine) to self organize around activities that need them. It is self-improving, incrementally scalable, and adapts to the structure of the organisation. Resources and activities that are BASE enabled experience unmatched traceability, visibility, and business automation. BASE allows organisations (including SMEs) the opportunity to take advantage of Industry 4.0 capabilities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, increase traceability, and enable real-time decision making without having to replace legacy systems or overhaul the entire business' IT and administrative infrastructure.

Target Industries

BASE is applicable to a wide variety of industries that need to digitize and automate their operations.

We currently have implementations of BASE demonstrating use-cases in the following sectors:

  1. Small Manufacturers
  2. Mining

We are busy developing use-cases with pilot clients in the agricutlural sector.

Other potential industries include:

  1. Medical resource management and digitisation.

Unique Features/Benefits

BASE is a modular agent based system design. It reflects the relationships and resources in an organisation exactly as they are in reality (See Figure 3). This allows each resouce and activity in a business to be encapsulate its data and be modified with plugins that change how the resource or activity handles its data and interacts with other BASE enabled assets and acticities. This approach allows for incrementally scalable solutions that range from one to thousands of resources completely customisable in their behaviour and autonomy.

Innovation Status

BASE is protected by a provisional patent.

We are commercialising BASE through a proposed spinout, Cybarete, that is currently in pre-spinout incubation.

A commercial proof-of-concept system was successfully deployed at a manufacturer in Stellenbosch. The manufacturer is using the BASE deployment to integrate and trace over 60 employees, 120 tools and vehicles, and multiple jobs that have to be completed each week.

A use-case for the application of BASE in mining as part of a Real-Time Information Management System was developed  through the Mandela Mining Precinct's RTIMS programme.

Research is ongoing and multiple post-graduate students are currently building BASE implementations demonstrating use-cases in various industries, including agriculture and medical applicatoins.

Opportunity

We are looking for:

  1. Investors willing to invest in Cybarete.
  2. Early adopters interested in piloting BASE in their industry and business.
