From managing budgets for student affairs to navigating the complexities of entrepreneurial and commercial ventures, Gershwin Fritz’s journey to Innovus is one of both professional evolution and a deep passion for finance.
Originally from Eersterivier, a neighbouring town to Stellenbosch, Gershwin’s love for numbers began at an early age. His academic performance in subjects such as mathematics and accounting prompted him to pursue a higher education in Finance and Taxation, which he obtained from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Gershwin’s early-founded interest in numbers and financial systems has laid the foundation for a solid financial career.
After graduating, an internship at iThemba Labs provided him with invaluable hands-on experience in both finance and supply chain management, offering him insights into the importance of financial oversight across different business functions. Thereafter, taking on a Junior Accountant role at Kathy Mann & Associates, Gershwin completed his SAIPA articles and earned the designation of Professional Accountant.
“I joined Stellenbosch University in 2019 as a Finance Officer at the Division of Student Affairs which involved overseeing budgets and financial reporting for a range of student services. After five years I felt like I had grown as much as I could, and I was ready for a new challenge,” he shares.
Alongside his professional role, Gershwin also pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Finance Management at the SU School of Public Leadership, strengthening his knowledge in public finance and policy.
Now, as part of Innovus, Gershwin brings a wealth of experience in both the corporate and public sector finance, ready to play a key role in managing the finances of spin-out companies, startups, and the broader innovation ecosystem.
