OK urban opens its second store at SU Tygerberg Medical Campus

The OK urban convenience store, deli and coffee shop, a new innovative store concept that is entirely cashless, is opening its doors on Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Tygerberg Medical Campus in October 2024. This store in the Tygerberg student centre will only be the second store of its kind within the OK Franchise Division to open its doors.

The store boasts a chic, upmarket modern look and feel that creates a welcoming environment for customers. Despite its stylish appearance, the store will be providing relatively affordable ready-made meals, striking a balance between quality and value for the campus community.

The store will offer fresh and convenient products to meet the needs of the SU campus community. The store will offer cashless transactions which is in line with the OK urban sustainability focus. In addition to digital payments, COB payments will also be accepted. All of this will ensure that customers have an elevated shopping experience.

Store Offerings include:

  • A wide variety of affordable ready-made meals
  • Sushi bar
  • In-store heat-and-eat pizzas
  • Artisanal bakery
  • Fresh meat range
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Four double-sided grocery shelving modules for ample product selection
  • Halaal Certified products and services

Ensuring that the ready-to-eat meals are of the highest quality, TV personality and chef Prim Reddy consulted with the store to curate its food offering. This partnership ensures a diverse and appealing range of meal options that caters to the tastes and needs of students, staff, and visitors.

Extended trading hours

To accommodate the schedules of students and medical staff, OK urban offers extended trading hours:

  • Weekdays: 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Saturdays: 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Sundays: 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM

“The addition of the new store and its extended hours demonstrates SU’s dedication to the wellbeing of its campus community by providing essential items and nutritious meals at a safe and convenient location without leaving campus grounds”, says Faizel Moos, head of SU’s Letting office at SUNCOM.
